"Two Truths in One Heart: Two Peoples in One Land"
February 27, 7:30pm
Beit Ahavah, 130 Pine Street, Florence, MA (Bombyx Center for Arts & Equity)
A light reception at 7 p.m. to precedes in the Peacock Room (with the Ketubahs of Love Art Exhibit). All are welcome. Co-sponsored by Beit Ahavah, Bombyx Center for Arts & Equity, Congregation B'nai Israel, The Jewish Community of Amherst, and more to come.
An evening to learn about a radically different approach with Rabbi Hanan Schlesinger and Khaled Abu-Awaad, directors of Roots-Shorashim-Judur -- an Israeli-Palestinian grassroots initiative for understanding, nonviolence and transformation based in the West Bank - a unique network of local Palestinians and Israelis who have come to see each other as partners we both need to make changes to end the conflict.
Based on mutual recognition of each People's national identity and connection to the Land, Roots challenges the assumptions their communities hold about each other, build trust, and create a new discourse around the conflict in their respective societies, even in this radically challenged time during the Israel-Hamas War and the war in Gaza.
Roots emphasizes involvement of religious Muslims and religious Jews, as well as Israeli settlers living in the West Bank/Judea and Samaria that Palestinians see as the territory of their future state. Roots sees this engagement as the only way to move towards achieving freedom and security for both peoples.
Roots is on a speaking tour to grow support and share their groundbreaking message and personal stories of transformation. All are welcome to come and learn about Roots, as a model for people-to-people peace-building and in particular their work on how to move forward in these extremeley difficult times.
