The course will focus on the 1948 Arab-Israeli War which Israelis refer to as The War of Independence and Palestinians call the Nakba. Understanding what happened in 1948 and its aftermath is fundamental to understanding the current Middle East.  Four sessions covering the UN Partition Decision of 1947;  The War--The Experience of Israeli and Arab Soldiers; Refugees; and  1967--The Undoing of Partition.  Short readings and primary source materials would be provided, including maps and excerpts from documents.

Aaron is a retired Hampshire College History Professor experienced at teaching JCA Adult Ed courses.
